Is the B’MORE Fund like the MacArthur awards? The B’MORE Fund awards are loosely modeled after the MacArthur Genius Awards in a number of ways. First, like the MacArthur Genius awards, these awards will not be given as a result of any application from any award recipient. Rather, the nomination and selection process will be completely private and the awards not announced until the decision has been made. In this way, like the MacArthur Genius awards, it is expected that the award recipients will be surprised by the award. Further, as with the MacArthur Genius Award recipients, recipients of the B’MORE Fund awards will not be obligated to do anything as a result of the award (although we hope they will continue to lead exemplary lives and that the award will help them in their efforts). The B’MORE Fund events are not, however, in any way endorsed or sponsored by the MacArthur Awards.
Can I apply for a B’MORE Fund award? No.
How are award recipients chosen? Each member of the B’MORE Fund will be permitted to participate in the nomination and selection process. The specific selection criteria are currently being developed, but will include a focus on acknowledging and rewarding those people who help to create a better Baltimore.
Why are applications neither solicited nor accepted? In an effort to maximize the impact and joyfulness of the award process, the Fund is absolutely committed to keeping the process discreet.
Do some people know they are under consideration? No potential awardee should be aware they are under consideration. If they are, there has been a breach of the confidentiality commitment made among members of the Fund.
How many potential awardees are considered?
There is no predetermined number of potential awardees to be considered.
Is this a confidential process? Yes.
Is it necessary to be employed by a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization to be eligible? No.
What are the potential amounts of the awards? The amount of the awards has not yet been set.
